Frank Pekarna started Pekarna Meats in 1893 in Jordan. The business is a historic local favorite known for quality cuts of meat, homemade sausages, jerky and smoked ribs. A specialty item they sell is five-year-old sharp cheddar cheese. As the story goes, the first block was sent to Pekarna’s by mistake. The owners put in the cheese section, it became a good seller and has been in inventory ever since. It is not easy to slice and should be served in small cubes and make a great accompaniment to wine. Pekarna Meats is a 10-minute drive from the Ballinger Suite.
